THE ULTIMATE GIRLS GUIDE TO GETTING OVER GETTING DUMPED, BASED ON A SUCCESSFUL PLAY STAGED IN TORONTO, LONDON AND NEW YORK

"A cult stage-hit... that reads like a hilarious cross between The Vagina Monologues and Dr. Phil."  — FLARE MAGAZINE

"The book is free of earnest hand-wringing and is big on helping a girl blow her nose, get out of bed and reclaim the 'kernel' of her being."  — THE HAMILTON SPECTATOR

"A brand of laugh-a-minute, tough-love advice... Bittergirl is long on bone-dry humor and practical advice and blessedly short on saccharine-sweet platitudes and humiliating cleansing rituals."  — BUST

"Such a fun read, you'll almost want to get dumped. Okay, I said almost. Wise, wicked, and wonderful."  — REBECCA FIELD JAGER, author of How to Make Love and Dinner at the Same Time

"I love the Bittergirls! They practically make getting dumped fun. Okay, okay they make it suck a whole lot less. They’ve been there, done that and survived to walk you through, every martini of the way. Don’t break up without them!"  — JOSEY VOGELS, sex columnist, author of Bedside Manners: Sex Etiquette Made Easy

"We've all been there! When even our best friends are so sick and tired of us moaning about our ex that they are offering to pay for our therapy sessions! It may take you a while to get over HIM, but with the help of these sweet Bittergirls, it makes the rocky ride a heck of a lot easier. This is definitely a book you should keep handy on your shelf, and memorize with as much effort as it takes to forget HIS phone number. It WILL make you feel better and, better yet, it's cheaper than therapy!"  — REBECCA ECKLER, author of Knocked Up: Confessions of a Hip Mother to Be

"If you would like to escape the saccharine haze of the season [Valentine's Day]... Bittergirl, by Annabel Griffiths, Alison Lawrence, and Mary Francis Moore, is a guide to getting over getting dumped. The bittergirls boast that they, collectively, have been dumped 57 times. This does not make them losers. This makes them experts. They wear their break-up scars with pride...Bittergirl is a self-help book, but it is breezy and bantering."  — THE GLOBE AND MAIL

"It's a hip guide that welcomes readers to the club of surviving being dumped. It's conversational, girlfriend — actually 'sugar' or 'sweetie' or 'lamb' — and its clear voice gets in your head."  — METRO, TORONTO

"Bittergirls are not bitter girls. They are better girls. Lawrence, Griffiths, and Moore are hotties in black cocktail dresses. They are cheeky, sexy, intelligent, and very funny.... Bittergirls arrive with champagne and airbags. They are here to get you out of the ratty bathrobe, wean you from Häagen-Dazs and prevent you from being superbittergirl, the action hero of break-ups..."  — THE TORONTO STAR

From the split second it takes him to utter "I love you, I'm just not in love with you," life becomes a high-impact rollercoaster of emotions. Unpredictable behaviour is as predictable as getting dumped, but a self-respecting girl does not have to become a cliché! Never thought you'd key a car? Sing “Crazy for You” at a karaoke bar? Clean a toilet with his new girlfriend’s toothbrush? Nobody does, but these embarrassing little secrets are worn like badges of honour as the Bittergirls share "I-never-thought-I'd-do-that" moments and tell you that whatever you're feeling, it's okay, honey, we've been there and we're here to share.

Bittergirl takes the reader from the initiation into the Just-Dumped Club, including the warning signs, the shock of rejection, the seductive lure of "the moment of weakness," and relationship apathy, through the first solo appearance, and on to the bittersweet moment when a bittergirl finally realizes, "Wow, I am over him." Each chapter features lines that capture the universal bittergirl experience, real-life bittergirl stories, and activities such as the Bittergirl Manifesto, club activities designed to get you over it, the Emergency Kit, the invitation to join, and much more.

Bittergirl is no conventional self-help book. There's no remedy and there's no pill. But The Bittergirls are here for you. It's not about blame, baby. It's about the style in which you get over it. And you will get over it. Join the girls and learn to wrap your dignity around you like a cloak. Learn to tell your tale like it's never been told and get the last laugh: that's the Bittergirl way. With this book under her finely toned arm, a bitter gal will re-enter the world with the knowledge that she is not alone.

And in the end, discover what the charter Bittergirls did: that a true bittergirl is not truly bitter but simply a funnier, wiser, seasoned, and more experienced person. By embracing the bitterness, the authors, Annabel, Alison, and Mary Francis have moved on to heights they could only imagine before. They discovered the power of their friendship, going from casual acquaintances to living with keys to each other's houses and finishing each others' sentences. And wherever they go, they hear, "Are you a bittergirl? Let me tell you my story."

Praise for the play, Bittergirl

"Brightly and smoothly staged...amusing...clever."  — THE GLOBE AND MAIL

"We’re not laughing at these silly women and men, we’re laughing at ourselves. And that can feel pretty good."  — THE TORONTO STAR

"For lovers of Sex and the City, Bittergirl’s take on dating and dumping is even more fun"  — NOW MAGAZINE

About The Bittergirls
The three professional actors, writers and directors first collaborated in 1999 to write the original version of the stage play Bittergirl. The play was a sell-out success, prompting the newly christened Bittergirls to lengthen it and take Bittergirl to the Tristan Bates Theatre in London, England in the spring of 2000 for their International Reading Series. Again, they were a sold-out sensation, and returned to Toronto to mount the show for two smash-hit runs. In the fall of 2002 the Bittergirls were invited to showcase the production at the John Houseman Theatre in New York City; on their return they played in Toronto until the end of March 2003. They all live in Toronto.
